Lostock Lodge Dementia-Friendly Renovations: £130K Transformation for Enhanced Living and Dining

Lostock Lodge Dementia-Friendly Renovations have brought a £130K transformation to our home, designed to enhance residents’ lives with supportive, well-planned spaces. From a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen to beautifully renovated living and dining areas, areas of Lostock Lodge have been reimagined to create a homelike environment that promotes comfort, independence, and meaningful connections for our residents.

The team, led by Home Manager Mel, collaborated closely with residents to understand their unique needs, ensuring our new spaces offer a welcoming and dementia-friendly environment. With this investment, we’re setting new standards in dementia care, offering residents a safe and enriching space to call home.

Mel’s Vision: Four Key Objectives

In developing the Lostock Lodge Dementia-Friendly Renovations, Mel and the team established four guiding principles to inform the design process:

1. Create a Soothing, Dementia-Friendly Space: Lostock Lodge’s new interiors make residents feel safe, calm, and connected. Earthy, neutral tones – such as warm beige and light browns – have been carefully selected to reduce confusion and anxiety, creating a soothing and familiar atmosphere.

2. Creating a Peaceful Living Environment for Social Interaction: Socialisation is vital for mental and emotional well-being, and our updated seating, lighting, and homelike décor all support that goal. The result is a peaceful setting that encourages residents to connect with each other, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company.

3. Design a Dining Room That Promotes Togetherness: Our renovated dining room is designed for comfort and community. Communal tables and seating arrangements allow residents to enjoy meals together, fostering relationships that enhance mood and reduce feelings of isolation.

4. Create an Accessible Kitchenette for Independence: A dementia-friendly kitchenette was added to support residents in simple meal preparation tasks, such as setting the table or pouring drinks. These activities promote independence, boost self-esteem, and support cognitive engagement.

The Living Area: Designed for Well-being

Our new living area has been carefully crafted to support the cognitive and emotional needs of residents with dementia. Subtle contrast colours on handrails and walls help residents navigate spaces more confidently, while natural materials, soft textures, and ample lighting create a warm, comforting environment.

Dining Experience That Inspires Comfort and Connection

The new dining room and commercial kitchen aim to transform mealtimes into a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for all. A new Bain Marie allows fresh, hot meals to be served on-site, stimulating appetite through the sight and aroma of food. This sensory experience encourages better eating habits and enables residents to make choices in real-time, enriching their mealtime experience.

Mel noted, “The mealtime experience at Lostock Lodge is organised to be calming, familiar, and enjoyable. We’re prioritising sensory experiences and routine to foster a sense of security and make every meal something our residents look forward to.”
