This National Pet Day the Wellbeing Team at Hailsham House in East Sussex, have embraced the opportunity to celebrate in their own style and introduce our residents to a myriad of cute and cuddly companions. Transforming the home into a menagerie of joy, bringing smiles and laughter to our cherished residents.
From the softest bunnies that hopped into our hearts, to playful puppies that fetched our affections, and even the tiniest guinea pigs that wheeked their way into our laps, there was no shortage of animal magic. Not forgetting the quackingly cute ducklings that waddled their way around, enchanting everyone in their path. However, the stars of the show weren’t just the furriest or fluffiest. A venerable 14-year-old tortoise and a magnificent Australian bearded dragon, both not so cuddly but equally loved, showcased the diverse wonders of the animal kingdom.
At Hailsham House, located in the beautiful town of Hailsham, we understand the profound impact pets can have on the wellbeing of the older generation. The joy of pet therapy goes beyond mere cuddles; it’s a gateway to reminiscence, sparking conversations of cherished memories and enabling our residents to engage in new, sensory-rich experiences.
At Hailsham House, we understand that each resident has unique needs and preferences. This is why pet therapy is particularly beneficial, even more so for those living with dementia. Engaging with animals can help in unlocking doors to memories long thought forgotten, encouraging verbal exchange and social interaction in a way that few other therapies can. Furthermore, for our residents who are nursed in bed, the sensory stimulation provided by the soft fur of a bunny or the smooth shell of a tortoise can be incredibly soothing, offering comfort and a sense of connection to the world around them.
The benefits of today’s activities extend far beyond the immediate joy and excitement. The interaction with pets has shown to lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and even improve overall emotional well-being. It’s these moments that truly highlight the ethos of Aurem Care and our dedication to not just care, but enrich the lives of our residents at Hailsham House.
We’re all about creating memorable moments and embracing every opportunity to bring joy and comfort to our residents. Today was a purr-fect example of how we strive to make Hailsham House a home where hearts are touched, and lives are enriched.
