Westbank care home, in Sevenoaks, has introduced a new twist to its Employee of the Month awards by inviting residents’ families to help choose one of the winners for the first time.
Westbank Care Home recognised three members of staff for their outstanding contributions during a special presentation celebrating the dedication and commitment of its team.
Staff nurse Derrick became the first employee to receive an award voted for by residents’ relatives. Families praised Derrick for the exceptional care, compassion and support he provides to their loved ones.
Relatives described him as a valued member of the team who consistently goes above and beyond, offering reassurance, kindness and professionalism to everyone he encounters.
Two further awards were decided by colleagues. Yvonne was recognised for her hard work and dedication, with fellow team members highlighting the commitment and positive attitude she demonstrates every day.
Head housekeeper Jessica was also honoured after colleagues praised the support she provides throughout the home and the warm smile with which she greets everyone. Staff said Jessica consistently goes above and beyond her role, helping residents, visitors and colleagues alike whenever needed.
Beckie Waterman, home manager at Westbank Care Home, said: “We are incredibly proud of Derrick, Yvonne and Jessica and everything they do for our residents and the wider Westbank community.
“Introducing a family-voted category has given relatives the opportunity to recognise members of our team who make a real difference to their loved ones’ lives, and the response has been wonderful. Derrick received some truly heartfelt feedback from families, which reflects the compassion and professionalism he brings to his role every day.
“Yvonne and Jessica are also thoroughly deserving winners. Their dedication, positivity and willingness to go the extra mile help create the warm, supportive environment that makes Westbank such a special place to live and work.”
