Finding a suitable care home
What is a care home, and what types of care homes are available in the UK?
A care home is a residential facility that provides accommodation, personal care, and support for individuals who require assistance with daily living activities due to age, illness, or disability. Aurem Care have several different types of care homes, including residential care homes for those who need support with personal care, specialist environments for those living with a form of dementia and nursing homes that offer 24-hour nursing care for individuals with more complex medical needs. Some homes are able to cater for all of these care types creating a home for life.
How do I know if it’s the right time to consider moving into a care home?
Deciding to move into a care home can be a difficult decision and will depend on an individual’s specific circumstances. Consider factors such as declining health, increased dependency on others for daily activities, or challenges in managing daily life at home. Essentially, if life is beginning to become more of a struggle, then pick up the phone & give us a call, we are here to help you.
What is the process for finding and choosing a suitable care home?
The process involves researching care homes in your desired area, visiting potential homes to assess facilities and services, considering costs and funding options, and discussing care needs with the care home team and your family members before making a decision. At Aurem Care we pride ourselves on taking the time to listen to your individual & unique situation, this then allows our highly qualified teams to ensure that your package of care is tailored specifically for you.
Is there a waiting list for the care home, and how long does it typically take to secure a place?
Looking for a care come can be a quick or drawn-out process dependent on your individual need & situation. Researching a care home early in a care journey is key to ensuring that when you are ready you don’t make any hasty or wrong decisions. At Aurem Care we can move as quickly or as slowly as you need us to for your unique situation, but we are here to hold your hand & support you as much as you need. Some of our care homes may have waiting lists, and the time to secure a place can vary depending on availability and demand.
Living in a care home
Can I bring my own furniture and personal belongings to the care home?
Yes, at Aurem Care we encourage residents to bring their own furniture and personal belongings to the care home to create a familiar and comfortable living space. Our experience has taught us that it’s important to maintain homeliness like this. Our residents love to have cherished items and photos surrounding them to help celebrate their life.
Will I have a say in my care plan and the services I receive at the care home?
Yes, residents have the right to be involved in decisions about their care and support services. At Aurem Care our care plans are often developed in consultation with the individual and their family to ensure their preferences and needs are met. This helps us provide truly individual care for those choosing us as their next home.
What types of care and support services are typically offered in care homes?
At Aurem Care we offer assistance with personal care, medication management, meals, housekeeping, social activities, and 24-hour support from trained staff. In our nursing homes we additionally provide medical care and support delivered by fully qualified registered nurses who are also on hand 24 hours a day. If you or a loved one are living with a dementia, then it may be a comfort to know that all of our team are trained to compassionately understand your needs & provide care in a calming & supportive way.
Funding Care
How much does it cost to live in a care home, and what factors influence the cost?
The cost of living in a care home varies depending on factors such as location, the level of care required, the type of care home, and the amenities provided. Funding options, including government support and personal finances, will also impact the cost. Once the team at your local Aurem Care home have had some time to understand your individual situation we can give your more of an idea of your weekly fee. We would always advise speaking to SOLLA accredited later life adviser who will be able to guide you through this part of your care journey. Our Aurem Care team can help point you in the right direction & can also help by answering many of your questions. A quick google search can give a little guidance, but if you prefer (as we do) a more personal touch then please ask one of our helpful team.
Will the government provide financial assistance or funding for care home costs?
In the UK, the government may provide financial assistance based on an individual’s care needs and financial circumstances. Eligibility for funding is determined through a means test and assessment by local authorities. Our team are always on hand with the most up to date guidance & can help direct you towards the right local authority teams for support in this area.
Independence in a care home
Can I keep my independence and privacy while living in a care home?
An essential element of providing good care involves building trust and confidence. For every individual, we understand how important privacy and dignity is. Privacy is ensuring you have space in the bathroom, on the phone, opening your post and also protecting your personal information – to name just a few.

You are the expert on yourself, you know what matters to you, and we will work with you to achieve your goals and maintain relationships.
Can I continue to see my friends and family regularly while living in a care home?
Yes, an Aurem Care home becomes your new home & we would actively encourage and support regular visits from friends and family to maintain social connections and emotional wellbeing.
What activities and amenities are available in care homes to keep residents engaged?
At Aurem Care we offer a range of activities and amenities such as social events, outings, hobbies, and access to communal areas for interaction and recreation. We would also look to add more bespoke opportunities for our residents once you have moved in & we can get to know you a little more. At Aurem Care we feel moving into a care home should bring new opportunities & allow you to discover new passions.
Can I have a trial stay or visit the care home before making a decision?

Yes, all of our homes have arrangements with healthcare providers, and residents can access medical and healthcare services as needed. In some cases, you can also keep your own GP (This decision ultimately would lie with the GP)
