Residents at a Penicuik care home have been putting their creativity to good use and using it to brighten the day of a friend.
Residents at Aaron House Care Home, part of Aurem Care, enjoyed a flower arranging session which encouraged everyone to express their artistic side and create their own individual displays.
Rather than following a set design, residents were given the freedom to choose their flowers and arrange them however they wished, resulting in a colourful collection of creations.
But residents Jack and Mary decided their finished arrangement should have a special recipient. The pair worked together to create a bouquet, which they presented to fellow resident Jean, who is currently less able to leave her bedroom than she once was.
The thoughtful surprise brought a huge smile to Jean’s face and provided a particularly touching moment for residents and colleagues at the home.
Fellow resident Edna also embraced the occasion, having fun adding flowers to her hair as well as creating her own floral artwork.
Aaron House colleagues Clayre and Sam said it had been lovely to see residents working together, helping each other and sharing plenty of smiles throughout the session.
Amanda Rankin, home manager at Aaron House, said: “It was wonderful to see how much everyone enjoyed getting creative with the flowers, but the loveliest part was seeing Jack and Mary decide that they wanted to give their arrangement to Jean.
“It was such a simple act of kindness, but it meant so much to her and the smile on her face said everything. Moments like this show the friendships that develop within Aaron House and how much our residents look out for one another.
“We always want people to have opportunities to express themselves, try different things and enjoy spending time together, and this was a lovely example of that.”
