Residents, families and members of the local community came together for a fun-filled open day at Aaron House care home in Penicuik, enjoying an afternoon of animals, entertainment, games and homemade treats.
One of the biggest attractions was a petting zoo, where residents and visitors had the opportunity to meet a host of friendly animals including llamas, chickens, ponies, guinea pigs and goats. The two inquisitive llamas quickly stole the spotlight as residents enjoyed petting the animals, learning more about them and posing for photographs.
The event also featured games, a tombola with a range of prizes and a delicious selection of homemade baking, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the home.
Resident Amy McIntosh was among those enjoying the celebrations, while Nessie Blair shared a special moment with carer Shaye McDonald. Mary Meins also joined in the activities, and Etta Bell was delighted to spend the day with family members Jackie Bell and Doug Bell. Aaron House carer Chloe was among the team helping to ensure residents were able to enjoy everything the day had to offer.
Angela Airlie, home manager at Aaron House, said: “It was wonderful to see Aaron House filled with so much laughter, happiness and community spirit. Our residents had a fantastic time meeting the animals, as well as playing games and spending time with their loved ones. Events like this are so important because they create meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our residents and their families. I would like to thank our staff and everyone who helped to make the open day such a great success.”
Resident Amy McIntosh added: “It was lovely to see so many smiles on everyone’s faces and adults, animals and children having so much fun together.”
The open day was designed to bring the local community into Aaron House and give visitors the opportunity to experience the home’s welcoming atmosphere first-hand. Staff said they were delighted by the fantastic turnout and grateful to everyone who attended, donated prizes, baked cakes and helped make the day such a memorable occasion for residents and their families.
