Residents at Aaron House care home in Penicuik, part of Aurem Care, welcomed a host of four-legged visitors for a dog show that brought laughter and plenty of waggy tails.
The special event saw residents, relatives and staff joined by an impressive line-up of canine contestants, including Araya the Weimaraner, Mila the Shepherd, Glen the Labrador puppy, Bonnie the Collie, Ollie the Biewer Terrier, Cara the 16-year-old blind Poodle, Penny the 14-year-old Jack Russell, Willow the Golden Retriever, Nami the Russian Toy Terrier and the ever-popular Archie.
Residents played a central role in the event by helping to choose the competition categories and judging the winners. Archie impressed with his talents, taking home the Senior Best Trick award, while also being named Cutest Dog in a category chosen by resident Mary Meins. Araya won Best Trick and was also crowned Best Walker in a category selected by resident Agnes Blair.
One particularly touching moment came when Willow attended despite living with cancer. The much-loved Golden Retriever delighted residents, happily soaking up cuddles and affection throughout the afternoon.
The show created many memorable moments, including one shared by resident Nancy, who particularly enjoyed meeting Cara, the 16-year-old blind Poodle. As both Nancy and Cara are blind, the pair took a gentle walk together, prompting Nancy to laugh that it was “the blind leading the blind” – a moment that brought smiles to everyone watching.
Home manager Angela Airlie said: “It was a truly joyful day, full of laughter and special moments. A huge thank you to everyone who brought their dogs along and helped make the Aaron House Dog Show such a memorable occasion for our residents.
“Animals have a wonderful way of bringing people together, and seeing the smiles on our residents’ faces throughout the day made it incredibly special. We are so grateful to all our canine visitors and their owners for helping to create such a fantastic community event.”
